Industrial Films, Inks & Adhesives for Human Interface Design

Featured GAT Technologies portfolio: MacDermid Autotype® industrial film systems, Polycarbonate Film Systems (PC), and NorCote® UV-curable graphic & silver conductive ink systems; integrated with performance PSAs and laminating adhesives.

How to specify with GAT Technologies

Share your use case, environment (chemicals, UV, temp), substrates, graphics/colour targets, electrical needs (Ω/sq, trace widths), tactile/backlight goals, and any medical/industrial standards.
We’ll build a stack comprising MacDermid Autotype® industrial film system, the right Polycarbonate Film System, NorCote® UV graphic & silver conductive inks, and application-matched adhesives—plus forming, printing, and lamination guidance.

MacDermid Autotype® polyester films and our Polycarbonate Film Systems form the backbone of membrane switches, fascias, HMIs, medical keypads, and touch User Interface overlays. They deliver:

Optical clarity & print receptivity for crisp legends and icons
Chemical/cleaning resistance (disinfectants, solvents)
Tight gauge & dimensional stability for reliable embossing and dome-retention
Hardcoats/texture finishes for abrasion resistance and controlled gloss

NorCote® UV-curable inks enable long-life graphics and functional printing in one stack:

Graphic inks (UV) for high-opacity colours, brand fidelity, and UV durability and flexibility
UV curable Silver conductive inks for printed circuits, bus bars, and switch traces, supporting thin, flexible interconnects
Dielectric, carbon, and protective overprints to fine-tune resistance, shielding, and wear life
The result: thin, flexible circuits with stable resistance and abrasion/solvent-resistant graphics that survive industrial and medical cleaning.

Performance PSAs and laminating adhesives bond film stacks to powder-coat metals, plastics, glass, and textured housings while resisting heat, humidity, and chemicals. In HMIs they:

Laminate top film → spacer → circuit → backer in membrane switches
Mount nameplates/overlays cleanly without ooze or creep
Provide venting, gasketing, and light-management layers where required

Pair MacDermid Autotype® medical-capable films with NorCote® low VOC and UV curable inks to build:

Cleanable, disinfectant-resistant control surfaces (AF/AR/hardcoat options)
Wearable and diagnostic interfaces with biocompatible contact zones
Backlit, tactile keypads using textured or velvet-matte tops for gloved use
These stacks address FST/biocompatibility considerations and repeated wipe-down/sterilisation cycles.
UV/heat/chemical resistance → longer life in factories, hospitals, and outdoors
Thinner, lighter constructions → compact devices with better ergonomics
High-resolution graphics + conductive printing → smarter, slimmer HMIs
Consistent emboss & tactile feel → reliable user feedback over millions of actuations
Regulatory alignment (when specified) supports medical and industrial compliance

They enable integrated functionality in the overlay itself: printed silver circuits (NorCote®), light guides/diffusers, anti-microbial/anti-fog hardcoats (MacDermid Autotype® options), and engineered PC films for thermoformed 3D fascias. Expect thinner HMIs, sealed interfaces, better backlighting, and fewer parts—all with faster assembly.

Comparison: Traditional Materials vs. Specialised Films, Inks & Adhesives

Feature / Requirement Traditional (basic plastics, paints, generic adhesives) Specialised Stack (MacDermid Autotype® films, Polycarbonate Film Systems, NorCote® inks, performance PSAs)
UV & Heat Resistance Discolour, crack, warp UV-stabilised films & UV inks maintain clarity and colour
Abrasion & Chemical Resistance Scratch easily; cleaners attack graphics Hardcoated/texture films + chemical-resistant UV inks withstand solvents/disinfectants
Design Freedom Limited colours/finishes High-res graphics, textures, window clears, selective matte/gloss
Electrical Functionality Separate PCBs/cables required NorCote® silver conductive & dielectric inks print flex circuits directly
Bonding Strength Peel/failure on low-energy plastics Engineered PSAs bond metals, PC, PET, and powder-coat reliably
Medical Hygiene Paint wear; hard to sterilise Cleanable, antimicrobial/AF/AR options; sterilisation-resistant stacks
Product Lifecycle Short; frequent rework Extended life, fewer field failures and service calls
Interface Features Basic labels only Emboss, tactile domes, backlighting, shielding, smart integration
